Iran attacks Israel with hundreds of drones and missiles
Iran launched some 200 drones and missiles in an attack on Israël on Saturday night. With the help of the US army, nearly all drones and missiles were intercepted.
Tensions have been building in recent days, after an attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria last week. Israël has not claimed responsibility for the attack, but is generally thought to have been behind it.
The Iranian delegation at the UN said the attack was based on article 51 of the UN Charter, which states that a country has the right to defend itself. The Houthi rebels in Yemen and Hezbollah in Lebanon also fired missiles.
Western countries have condemned the attack. The UN Security Council convenes on Sunday afternoon.
