Israeli-Palestinian conflict: TikTok takes more than half a million videos offline

Over half a million videos and live broadcasts relating to the conflict between Israel and Hamas have been taken offline from TikTok over the past few days, the company announced. The European Commission has threatened sanctions against social media companies for spreading fake news.

TikTok also says it has brought in more moderators who know Arabic and Hebrew to review videos. The company has created a "command team" of security experts to respond to the crisis and has a collaboration with fact-checkers in more than 50 language areas.

European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton has reminded TikTok of its obligations, especially in the fight against violent videos. Meta, X and YouTube also received a warning last week.
