Jan De Nul joins Scotland’s Inch Cape wind farm project

Belgian construction company Jan De Nul will be responsible for transporting and installing the foundations for Inch Cape, one of Scotland's largest offshore wind farms, the company announced on Thursday.

The 1,080 megawatt project comprises 72 turbines off the east coast of Scotland. The foundations will be up to 110m long and weigh up to 2,500 tonnes, equivalent to the weight of around 2,500 small cars.

Jan De Nul will transport and install the foundations using its vessel Les Alizés. The monopiles will be loaded from a quay built at the entrance to the port of Leith in Edinburgh. Operations will start at the end of 2025.

Once operational, Inch Cape will produce enough green energy to power the equivalent of more than half the homes in Scotland. ESB and Red Rock Renewables, the equal joint owners of the project, reached financial close at the end of January, raising more than 3.5 billion pounds of project financing.
