Joe Biden arrives in Kyiv on surprise visit

US President Joe Biden arrived in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv on Monday for a surprise visit. It is Biden's first visit to the country since the Russian invasion began nearly a year ago.

Biden had previously announced that he would travel to Poland just days before the first anniversary of Russia's invasion of neighbouring Ukraine. Ahead of the planned trip, the US President arrived in Kyivv on Monday for a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

It is Biden's first visit to the country since the Russian invasion began. The visit had not been announced for security reasons.
