Klara radio presenter wins first language award in memory of popular news anchor
Klara radio presenter Katelijne Boon has won the first Martine Tanghe Prize, awarded by broadcaster VRT for creative and outstanding use of language.
“Katelijne Boon has the unique talent of building a sincere conversation without being pompous. With her clear language, she creates proximity rather than distance,” jury president Geertje Slangen said. “She is an inspiring example for her colleagues, a coach and mentor for young employees.”
The public award was won by fellow radio presenter Sofie Lemaire of Radio 1. Gilles De Coster of Play Media, Faroek Özgünes of DPG Media and Lia van Bekhoven of VRT NWS were also nominated.

The Martine Tanghe Prize is the successor to the Jan Wauters Prize. It is awarded to a person who works in the spoken media and stands out for their clear and attractive use of the Dutch language. The prize is named in memory of popular VRT journalist and news anchor Martine Tanghe, who died of cancer in July 2023 aged 67.
Boon was presented with her award on Saturday by Flemish Culture minister Caroline Gennez during the Taalfeest language festival at De Singel in Antwerp.
