Lotte Kopecky claims double victory in World Tour race a day after crash
Lotte Kopecky made a remarkable comeback on the final day of the Simac Ladies Tour, a Dutch World Tour stage race, by claiming both the stage win and the overall victory just a day after a heavy crash.
In Arnhem, she won the hilly 145km final stage and took control of the race’s general classification.
The stage was largely shaped by a long solo breakaway from Dutch rider Silke Smulders, who maintained a lead for much of the race. However, she was caught by the peloton in the closing metres. With three-time stage winner Lorena Wiebes leading out the sprint for her teammate, Kopecky seized the opportunity and delivered an excellent finish to secure the win.
Kopecky now leads the Women's World Tour standings. With another stage race coming up in Chongming, China, next week, it’s unlikely the top contenders will compete, putting Kopecky in a strong position for a World Tour overall win.
