Last-minute sunshine holiday bookings surge

With disappointing weather forecast for the rest of the Easter holidays, many Belgians have booked a last-minute holiday to the sun. Tour operators have seen an increase in bookings and say the best deals are to be found in Egypt and Turkey, Gazet Van Antwerpen reports.

Temperatures in Belgium are not expected to go above 20 degrees in the coming days, with grey skies and rain continuing for the next week.

“Egypt and Turkey have waived Covid measures for the longest time, because for a long time there was negative travel advice in force for non-European countries,” TUI spokesperson Piet Demeyere told GVA. “They now want to catch up and are therefore offering the most interesting discounts.”

Tour operator Corendon sees the same trend. “The Canary Islands are also popular again, but most hotels were already fully booked before the Easter holidays so there is now more interest in Turkish and Egyptian locations,” says Audrey Denkelaar of Corendon.
