Lotte Kopecky first Belgian to end road season as leader of UCI women's world ranking
Lotte Kopecky ends the 2024 road cycling season as the leader of the International Cycling Union's (UCI) women's world ranking. This makes the 28-year-old, who amongst others obtained a second world championship title, the first Belgian female rider ever to end the year as number one. Tadej Pogacar is the undisputed number one among the men.
With 6,389 points, Kopecky ends the season ahead of her Dutch teammate Demi Vollering, who obtained 5011.29 points. Italian rider Elisa Longo Borghini finished third with 4798.81 points.
Kopecky amongst others won the classic races Strade Bianche and Paris-Roubaix, took a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, won a first European time trial title and obtained a second world road title.
“I think we can say now that doing better will be very difficult, or even impossible,” said the Belgian to Flemish sports channel Sporza. “But I will try to keep this status in the coming years.”
Pogacar best male rider
Thanks to an impressive list of victories, Tadej Pogacar crowned himself the undisputed number one of the UCI men's world ranking. The Slovenian amongst others won the Strade Bianche, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, a first world road title, the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France. He finished ahead of two Belgian riders: Remco Evenepoel and Jasper Philipsen.
