Man killed in stabbing near Sportpaleis in Antwerp

A man was killed in Antwerp on Thursday in a suspected stabbing near the Sportpaleis arena. A search is underway for possible suspects.

Local police confirmed the fatal stabbing, which took place on the Schijnpoortweg. No suspects have yet been arrested.

At around 11:30, several people called the emergency services to report that someone had been stabbed," said Wouter Bruyns of the Antwerp police. "The emergency services arrived on the scene immediately."

Victim died at the scene

Medical services immediately started CPR while police searched the area for possible suspects. The victim, a man who has not yet been identified, died at the scene. 

A perimeter has been set up and the forensic laboratory is examining the scene for evidence. Police have launched an investigation and are checking whether bystanders or CCTV in the area can provide any further information.
