Manneken Pis dresses for Olympics with latest new costume
The Manneken Pis in Brussels has been dressed in a new costume to mark the Olympics, which begin on Friday. After a reception at City Hall on Tuesday morning, a delegation left for the statue to publicly unveil the costume.
The replica Team Belgium uniform is the 1,152nd costume that Manneken Pis has worn. The statue was also given a customised outfit for the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Games.
“It is an honour for me to pass by Brussels just before I leave for Paris,” said Jean-Michel Saive, president of the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee. “We are travelling with the largest delegation to the Olympics since 1928, and hopefully that will ensure a lot of medals.”
Belgium is sending 165 athletes to Paris as part of a delegation of 417 people, including coaches, medical staff and psychologists. The Games begin on 26 July and run until 11 August, followed by the Paralympics from 28 August to 8 September.
