Nele Gilis reaches fourth spot in squash world rankings, highest place ever for Belgium
Following her victory in the Singapore Open, Nele Gilis has moved up to fourth place in the world squash rankings, the highest ranking in the 27-year-old's career and a record for any Belgin player.
Gilis won the Singapore Open, part of the Professional Squash Association World Tour, on Sunday. It was the biggest win of her career and her 11th PSA tournament victory.
Final among sisters
It was a unique final, as Nele Gilis beat her sister Tinne in the final. She remains 10th in the new world ranking.
"This was so tough physically but it was even tougher mentally to play against your sister," Gilis said after her victory. "To be honest, it could have gone either way and I would've been so happy for Tinne if she'd won."
Stefan Casteleyn was the previous highest ranking Belgian, reaching seventh place in 1999.
Starting next Monday, Nele and Tinne Gilis will compete in the Hong Kong Open.
