New potential investor emerges for Audi Brussels factory
The Audi factory in Forest, Brussels, may have a potential new investor, a special works council meeting of unions and management was told on Tuesday. Audi Brussels has also announced that production at the site is expected to end in February next year.
"Audi Brussels is currently in contact with a potential investor," said spokesperson Peter D'hoore. This new investor, unlike the previous one, whose deadline was extended, operates in the commercial vehicle sector, focusing on trucks and buses, and was initially approached by Audi.
“It is too early a stage, but we want to give it every chance,” said ACV union representative Ronny Liedts. There are no details regarding potential job retention or transfer for the plant’s employees.
The announcement of a production end date offers affected employees some clarity about their futures. The final car, a Q8 e-tron, is set to roll off the production line on 28 February 2025, with the factory maintaining two shifts until then. Management has assured that no layoffs are expected before the end of the year.
On 12 November, management plans to conclude the first informational phase of the Renault procedure, a regulatory framework for major restructurings, at a follow-up special works council meeting. However, Liedts expressed scepticism about the timeline, indicating that unions intend to propose alternative options to keep the factory operational.
