New team captain for Belgium's Red Devils
Kevin De Bruyne was announced today as the new captain of Belgium’s men's football team, the Red Devils. Several players were in the running for the position including Romelu Lukaku and Thibaut Courtois, but in the end De Bruyne was chosen. His appointment begins just in time for the European Championship qualifier this Friday in Sweden.
"It is a proud moment to be captain of the national team," De Bruyne said. "I've been here for a long time and to be able to represent our country in this way is an honour. I hope to be able to fulfill that role to the best of my ability.”
Lukaku and Courtois will serve as vice-captains and alongside De Bruyne, they will be the team representatives and point of contact with coach Domenico Tedesco.
