New version of OpenAI's ChatGPT allows users to have conversations with the system
OpenAI has launched a new version of its popular chatbot ChatGPT with a feature that allows people to have a conversation with the bot. The programme can process information based on spoken commands, communicate with the user in a human voice and translate different languages, making ChatGPT an important competitor for voice assistants such as Amazon's Alexa and Apple's Siri.
In a livestream on Monday, OpenAI demonstrated, among other things, how the new version of the chatbot can help solve a mathematical equation, speak fluently like a human, and even translate some sentences between Italian and English. All interactions were initiated with the phrase “Hey, ChatGPT.”
OpernAI technology director Mira Murati reported that the new GPT-4o model will also be available to free users. The company usually packs more advanced features into a paid subscription plan.
The timing of the presentation is interesting, considering Google is holding its annual developer conference on Tuesday, where announcements about new features using artificial intelligence are expected. A few months ago, Google showed how its AI software, Gemini, can process spoken and visual information.
