No other EU country finds it more difficult to fill job vacancies than Belgium
New figures from the European statistical agency Eurostat on Monday show that Belgium finds it harder to fill job vacancies than any other country in the EU. The job vacancy rate in the EU is 2.6 per cent, while in Belgium it is 4.7 per cent.
In the previous quarter, the Belgian vacancy rate was 4.6 per cent, behind only the Netherlands (4.7 per cent). In the third quarter, the Netherlands dropped one place to 4.5 per cent.
Last year, Belgium's vacancy rate was 4.9 per cent, tied with the Netherlands. Austria was slightly worse at 5 per cent.
The higher the vacancy rate, the more difficult it is for companies to find suitable candidates to fill positions.
