Olympics: Triathlon races to go ahead as Seine passes water quality tests
The women's and men's triathlon races at the Paris Olympics will take place on Wednesday after the water quality of the Seine was found to be "compliant", organisers announced.
The women's individual triathlon will start at 8.00 and the men's at 10.45. The men's triathlon would normally have taken place on Tuesday, but poor water quality in the Seine following the weekend's rain forced the race to be postponed by a day.
Triathlon training sessions in the river had already been cancelled on Sunday and Monday. Whether or not the triathlons could take place on Wednesday would depend on further tests.
The latest analyses of the river water have been deemed "compliant" by World Triathlon, allowing the triathlon events to go ahead, organisers announced on Wednesday morning.
Belgium will be represented by Jolien Vermeylen and Claire Michel in the women's triathlon and Marten Van Riel and Jelle Geens in the men's triathlon.
