Opera Ballet Vlaanderen calls for favourite arias to play from windows
Opera Ballet Vlaanderen (OBV) is calling for people to play their favourite arias through open windows and fill the streets with music on Saturday afternoon.
The Open Raam (Open Window) message is part of the non-profit Curieus's 100in1Day movement, a series of activities aimed at making residents in communities and neighbourhoods closer.
“What is that one aria that keeps moving you to tears? Which opera has a special meaning for you? Which piece can you not resist conducting or dancing with?” asks OBV in a press release. “Opera and ballet fans in Flanders, make your love known and let us hear from you!”
Those who want to participate can register with OBV and compete for free tickets and subscriptions. OBV will have live music in it foyers in Antwerp from 10.00 until 12.00 and in Ghent from 16.00 until 18.00. Listeners at home can choose music selections from a list and tune in to hear the live performances. Classical radio station Klara will have present listeners’ requests on Saturday between 14.00 and 18.00.
The international movement behind 100in1Day arose in Bogota, Colombia, in 2012, when students put 100 compelling ideas into practice in one day to improve life in their city. Aside from Open Raam, other activities include planning a neighbourhood drink and hosting a clothing swap with neighbours. The goal is to unite the people of Flanders through community.
