Pascale Van Damme to continue as president of Belgian football association
The board of the Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) has extended Pascale Van Damme’s mandate as president for two years. Van Damme has been in the post for a year, following the resignation of Paul Van den Bulck, and was the only candidate.
In a press release, she said she wanted to pay particular attention to “the further development of women’s football, digitalisation and international relations”, while expanding the RBFA’s social role and securing its structural and financial sustainability.
Van Damme joined the board in June 2021 and was named the organisation’s first female president in May 2023. In her first year in the role, she appointed Piet Vandendriessche as CEO, succeeding Peter Bossaert, who was sacked in March last year. She also promoted the joint Belgian-Dutch-German bid to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup, which was eventually awarded to Brazil.
Growing Belgian football
“The appointment of Pascale Van Damme as president is a choice for stability, professionalism and teamwork,” Vandendriessche said. “I am looking forward to continuing the good work in the coming years, and growing Belgian football at all levels. Our role is not only to let the biggest football stars excel, but also to let the more than 560,000 members enjoy their sport.”
Van den Bulck resigned as president last year, following complaints about his behaviour from the executive committee.
