Passchendaele Museum in Zonnebeke reopens after renovation

The Passchendaele Museum in Zonnebeke, West Flanders province, has on Saturday reopened after a thorough renovation. The museum's rooms in the castle received an update, there is a revamped audio guide and the collection pieces are given more exposure.
The Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917, or Passchendaele Museum for short, tells the story of World War I with a specific focus on the Battle of Passchendaele of 1917. This is known as one of the most gruesome battles of World War I with nearly 600,000 casualties.
In the renovated museum, visitors are taken step by step through the war years thanks to the adapted storyline. It also features numerous collection pieces, flanked by a series of personal stories. Thanks to the revamped audio guide and some true-to-life scenes, the experience for visitors is enhanced.
“We are paying more attention to the visitor experience,” said Passchendaele Museum president Joachim Jonckheere. “The adapted museum route ensures a smoother flow and the rich interior decoration enhances the castle feel.”
Thanks to renovation, the historical character of the castle itself is further highlighted. Hidden elements such as fireplaces and windows were made visible again and restored to their former glory.
The Passchendaele Museum is open every day from 10 am to 5.30 pm, with last admission at 4.30 pm.
