PATHS2050 coalition presents roadmaps for a low-carbon and economically resilient Belgium

A newly formed coalition of key energy and industrial players in Belgium has published a study outlining strategic pathways to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 while maintaining economic and industrial resilience.
The PATHS2050 coalition, coordinated by the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO) in partnership with EnergyVille, brings together ArcelorMittal, BASF, Elia, Fluxys and Luminus. The study presents three scenario-based roadmaps that explore different combinations of technologies and investments, including offshore wind, sustainable molecules, small modular reactors and industrial carbon capture.
Roadmaps
The roadmaps are intended to support policymakers and industry stakeholders in identifying viable options for long-term energy and climate planning. The scenarios are based on current data and modelling, and aim to illustrate the potential impact of various policy and investment choices. They do not offer forecasts, but rather outline possible trajectories under specific assumptions.

The PATHS2050 initiative reflects ongoing efforts in Belgium to prepare for the energy transition in a way that balances climate goals with economic and industrial considerations.
