Piet Vandendriessche sacked as CEO of Belgian FA
The Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) has dismissed its CEO, Piet Vandendriessche, citing an irreparable breakdown of trust between him and the federation’s leadership.
Vandendriessche, who took on the role in 2021, was expected to drive the organisation forward, but ongoing tensions and disagreements over internal governance and strategic decisions led to his abrupt departure.
There had long been dissatisfaction with how Vandendriessche led the association. Among other things, he was blamed for the overdue evaluation of national team coach Domenico Tedesco, which was also said to have been insufficiently critical.
Vandendriessche may be replaced by Vincent Mannaert. The former Club Brugge CEO held talks with Vandendriessche in recent months about a job as technical director at the association, but eventually pulled out. Until a decision on his replacement is made, the board of directors will monitor the organisation with the executive committee. "Piet’s efforts have laid a solid foundation for the future of KBVB,” the association said in a press release .
RBFA president Pascale Van Damme was due to address staff about the issue on Wednesday afternoon.
