Police intervention in Ibis hotel in Brussels
A police intervention has been underway in the Ibis hotel in the centre of Brussels since Wednesday morning, Het Laatste Nieuws reports and the Brussels public prosecutor's office confirms.
"It concerns an intervention in the context of an ongoing judicial investigation," said public prosecutor Martin François. "We are not commenting in any way."
The hotel in Rue Joseph Plateau was evacuated and the immediate area was closed off. According to Het Nieuwsblad, the intervention started after the police received a call saying there was "an armed man" on the third floor of the hotel who was planning to "shoot everyone". The entire floor was then evacuated and special units arrived on the scene, according to the newspaper.
