Port of Ostend files police complaint after cyberattack

The Port of Ostend has filed a complaint with the federal police after falling victim to a cyberattack on Monday night. The attack targeted only the Ensor system, which logs ship arrivals and departures.
Authorities have been informed, and a team of internal and external cybersecurity experts, led by the Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB), is working to resolve the issue.
Over the coming days, servers and systems will gradually be restored. The port has stressed its commitment to protecting crew identity and personal data. “At this time, we have no indication of any data breaches," it said. "However, we apologise for any uncertainty this may cause for crew members. Should any personal data be compromised, we will contact those affected as soon as possible.”

The Ensor system holds data related to ship movements, including crew lists, but does not store critical information. Other port systems remain secure, and maritime traffic has not been disrupted.
While the motives behind the attack are still under investigation, experts suspect the attackers may have attempted to extort the port.
