Prime minister De Croo to take part in special Ramstein meeting on Ukraine war
Outgoing prime minister Alexander De Croo will take part in a high-level meeting on the war in Ukraine at the Ramstein US airbase in Germany on Saturday. Chief of defence Frederik Vansina will also participate.
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy will unveil his “victory plan” to his allies at the meeting and explain how he wants to win the war with Russia. The plan has already been discussed with US president Joe Biden, who will consult with German chancellor Olaf Scholz, French president Emmanuel Macron and British prime minister Keir Starmer on Saturday morning before the meeting.
On Saturday afternoon, there will be the actual meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group. This group, an alliance of 57 countries, meets regularly in Ramstein for consultations on military support to Ukraine. It usually involves defence ministers, but for the special meeting on Saturday the government leaders themselves are expected in Germany.
