Publisher develops tool for students to summarise textbooks using AI
Bookstore and publisher Acco has developed a platform where students can have their online course materials summarised thanks to artificial intelligence. The tool, available after the Easter holidays, will initially be free for students.
With exams approaching for many students, Acco wants to give them more tools. With technology groups Microsoft and Chronos, the publisher developed an online platform that can summarise courses and textbooks. Students with a textbook from Acco can access the platform via the book's code, which now, in addition to online exercises and extra material, includes a button to create summaries.
Those summaries can be tailor-made. For example, students can decide what their summary has to look like, how long it should be and whether it should be translated. For now, the tool is available for 60 of the most popular e-publications at Acco. The publisher hopes students will save time this way and won’t reach for summaries made by other students.
The tool will be free during the testing phase. As the technology comes with a cost, there will eventually be a fee, likely to be around 5 or 10 euros per summary.
