Real Madrid break 1bn euro revenue record to top football money league
Real Madrid has become the first football club to record a revenue of more than 1 billion euros in a single season, the annual Football Money League by Deloitte shows.
The club finished the 2023-2024 season with a revenue of 1.045 billion euros. The top three earning clubs remain the same as last year, with Manchester City in second ahead of Paris Saint-Germain. The top 20 recorded a cumulative revenue of 11.2 billion euros, up 6 per cent on last year.
Manchester United take over fourth place from FC Barcelona. Bayern Munich, where Belgium’s Vincent Kompany has been head coach since last summer, are fifth.
English clubs Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea complete the top 10. In total, there are nine Premier League teams in the top 20. No Belgian clubs appear in the top 30.
Sell-out crowds
Deloitte bases its calculation on TV rights, ticket sales and commercial revenues. Commercial revenue has the greatest impact, totalling 4.9 billion euros. However, the biggest growth was recorded in ticket sales, with an 11 per cent increase.
Real, home to Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, almost always play in front of a sold-out crowd in their recently renovated Bernabeu stadium. The club earned 248 million euros from ticket sales in 2023-24, a season in which they won both the domestic title and the Champions League.
