Roxane de Bilderling to become new Belgian ambassador to Congo
Roxane de Bildering will become Belgium's ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo next summer, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed following reports by La Libre Belgique. De Bildering will become the first woman in this post.
Due to the country's colonial past, the embassy in Congo is one of the key posts for Belgian diplomacy. Roxane De Bilderling has been a diplomat since 2000 and is currently Belgium's ambassador to Japan. Previously, she was the highest-ranking Belgian diplomat in Kenya, worked at the embassies in South Africa and Congo and was an assistant at the cabinet of former foreign minister Didier Reynders.
Antoine Evrard will succeed Roxane de Bilderling in Tokyo. He is currently foreign minister Hadja Lahbib's chief of cabinet. Evrard previously served as ambassador to Mexico and Belize. Michel Malherbe, former Foreign Affairs and Royal Palace spokesman, will become ambassador to Iran.
