Royal family visits Oxford to see Princess Elisabeth graduate
Belgium’s royal family travelled to Oxford on Tuesday to attend Princess Elisabeth’s graduation ceremony, following the completion of her bachelor’s degree in history and politics at Lincoln College.
King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, accompanied by Prince Emmanuel and Princess Eléonore, met Oxford University’s vice-chancellor, Professor Irene Tracey, and the rector of Lincoln College, Professor Henry Woudhuysen.
Parts of the ceremony took place in Latin, and ended with the traditional throwing of caps into the air.
"I learned a lot thanks to the professors I was able to study with," the princess told journalists after the ceremony. "There really is no better city to study history than here in Oxford, with its quintessentially English traditions and rich architecture. I have really loved the people, and the encounters that have taken place here."
Elisabeth, 22, will continue her studies this summer at Harvard University in Boston, with a two-year master’s degree in public policy.
