Brussels House in Barcelona to promote city as business and tourist destination
A new Brussels House opened in Barcelona on Thursday. Its aim is to promote Brussels as an economic and tourist destination, and to promote Brussels companies in strategic cities abroad.
Brussels is committed to city marketing and wants to develop a coherent international image that promotes public and private organisations operating internationally. The first Brussels House was opened in Milan in February.
The Barcelona centre was inaugurated by Brussels minister-president Rudi Vervoort and the region's secretary of state for International Relations and Foreign Trade, Ans Persoons.
"A piece of Brussels"
"This is a place that brings together Brussels actors in an innovative district in Barcelona, and we didn't have that before. Now it is a reality," said Vervoort, who, as head of the regional government, is also responsible for tourism and the image of Brussels.
"This second Brussels House abroad should help to highlight the design talent and dynamism of the Brussels region to our Catalan partners and our Catalan clientele. The Brussels House is also a piece of Brussels in another place."
Exports of Brussels goods to Spain are booming and increased by 31.8 per cent in 2022, to 150 million euros. At national level, exports to Spain increased by 29.2 per cent from 2021, reaching 11.2 billion euros in 2022. Brussels' share of this is 1.3 per cent, making Spain the region's 10th largest customer. In terms of imports, the country ranks fifth.
