Seven suspects have been arrested in a major investigation into human trafficking in Belgium and Spain, the West Flanders public prosecutor's office reported on Tuesday.
An investigation uncovered an organisation that sexually exploited women, recruiting them from abroad through online advertisements. The victims were forced to hand over half of their income from sex work.
The ring was active in several Belgian and Spanish cities. On 8 October, six people were arrested during raids in Belgium. A 34-year-old suspect, originally from Colombia but living in Madrid, was arrested in Spain. Belgium has asked Spain to extradite the suspect.
The police also seized 14,000 euros and identified nine possible victims of sexual exploitation. They are of Colombian, Spanish, Brazilian and Nigerian origin.
