Shooting in Hoegaarden leaves one person injured

A 38-year-old man was injured in a shooting on Saturday evening in Hoegaarden, Flemish Brabant, the Leuven public prosecutor's office confirmed. The victim, a resident of Hoegaarden, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to the hospital, where his condition is now stable.

Residents of Altenakenstraat reported hearing multiple gunshots around 21.00, followed by sightings of a dark-coloured car driving away with its lights off in the direction of the E40 motorway.

"The Getevallei police zone received a report of a shooting incident in Hoegaarden yesterday evening around 20.55," the public prosecutor's office said. "The Getevallei police zone went to the scene with the Federal Judicial Police Leuven and the lab. A judicial perimeter was set up at the scene to conduct a trace investigation."

Authorities have opened an investigation into attempted murder. "The Leuven public prosecutor's office requested the investigating judge for attempted murder," the statement continued. "The Federal Judicial Police Leuven will continue the investigation under the supervision of the investigating judge."

As of now, no suspects have been identified or arrested.
