Shooting in Saint-Gilles leaves one dead
A new shooting took place in the Brussels municipality of Saint-Gilles on Wednesday morning, mayor Jean Spinette reported on RTBF and confirmed to Belga. One person was killed.
The shooting took place at around 6.00 near Square Jacques Franck, the same place where a shooting took place the day before. At around 14.00 on Tuesday, shots were fired in the air and one person was injured when they were hit by the perpetrators' vehicle.
"Yesterday it was intimidation, today it looks more like an execution," said Spinette. "The federal judicial police are on the scene and are carrying out an investigation. The dealers seem to feel untouchable. After yesterday's incident, they returned to the park almost immediately to start dealing again. I asked the police to take action, and another person was arrested last night, but the dealers returned."
Spinette is calling for "serious action to tackle this problem with the whole chain of police and justice".
There was also a shooting on Boulevard du Midi in Brussels at around 1.30 on Wednesday, the Brussels City/Ixelles police reported. "We immediately went to the scene and set up a perimeter. No one was injured. The investigation is ongoing," a spokesperson said.
