Shooting incident at Brussels metro station is fourth in neighbourhood in 10 days
Shots were fired near Aumale metro station in Anderlecht early on Monday morning, the fourth shooting in the Brussels neighbourhood in 10 days.
“Fortunately, no one was injured in the process,” a police spokesperson said. “The suspects fled by vehicle and no arrests have been made for now. The investigation is being conducted by our local criminal investigation department and it cannot be ruled out that there is a link to the past shootings.”
At around 11.00 on 28 September, there was a shooting near a café at the junction of Rue d’Aumale and Rue de Birmingham. Two unknown persons fired several shots, although no one was injured.
In the evening of 2 October, a man was shot in Rue de la Verité. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition and his injuries are no longer life-threatening.
The same evening, officers from the Brussels-South police zone tried to check a vehicle on Rue Dante, due to suspicious behaviour and breaking traffic rules. After a short pursuit, the passenger got out of the vehicle and opened fire on the police. No one was injured.
“We understand the anxiety of residents in the area and this is certainly a concern that we have placed high on the agenda,” said the police spokesperson. “The various services are currently looking at this together.”
