Shot fired at taxi near Brussels-South station
A taxi was shot at near Brussels-South railway station on Thursday morning. No one was injured and one person was arrested, the local police and the public prosecutor's office confirmed.
"At around 5.50 this morning, the Brussels South zone police received a call about a traffic accident at the intersection of the Barastraat and the Veeartsenstraat," said Willemien Baert, spokesperson for the Brussels public prosecutor's office.
"While the teams were on their way, they received additional information that a gunshot had been allegedly heard," said Baert. At the scene, police found the driver of one of the vehicles, who stated that a shot had been fired. No one was injured and one person was arrested at the scene.
Hit-and-run
"The federal judicial police laboratory came to the scene for forensics, assisted by an explosives dog to search for bullet casings," Baert said. "The federal police helicopter also provided aerial assistance."
At this stage, the incident appears to have resulted from a hit-and-run, the prosecutor's office said, but the investigation is ongoing. "In order not to jeopardise the investigation, no further information will be given at this stage," Baert said.
According to the Brussels South police, the incident involved a collision between a taxi and a passenger car, after which the three occupants of the car fled the scene and fired a shot in the direction of the taxi.
