South Korean president revokes martial law

South Korean president Yoon Suk-Yeol announced he would revoke the newly imposed martial law, according to news agencies Reuters and Yonhap.

Yoon says that the security forces will withdraw and that the government will be convened as soon as possible. The announcement was greeted with cheers by the protesters at the parliament building in Seoul.

The revocation of martial law - announced by the president on Tuesday - comes hours after members of parliament voted to repeal it.
