Suspect confesses to murder of woman missing since 2010

A suspect has confessed to killing mother-of-three Heidi De Schepper, who went missing 15 years ago, Het Laatste Nieuws reports. He said he did so at the request of her then-partner and showed investigators on a map where they buried her with the help of a third friend. Police carried out a search for her body on Friday in Balen, in the Kempen region, but her body has not yet been found.

On Thursday, three suspects were arrested in the disappearance case: De Schepper's former partner and two of his friends. One of those friends, Nick G, was previously convicted for the murder of a friend in 2011, unrelated to the De Schepper case. He was placed under arrest by the investigating judge on suspicion of murder and has now confessed to killing the young woman.

According to Het Laatste Nieuws, Nick G said he killed De Schepper at the request of her then-partner. The former partner and another friend have also been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Nick G allegedly showed investigators on a map where De Schepper was buried. Police were at the scene on Friday looking for her body, but have not yet found it. The search will continue on Saturday.

De Schepper went missing in 2010 aged 26, but her disappearance was never reported and only came to light by chance last year via the school of one of her three children. She reportedly led an isolated existence and had been out of contact with her family since she was 18.

When her disappearance was established last year, her former partner told police she had left overnight with all her belongings. He had not heard from her since then, he said, and raised the children himself.
