Tennis fans prepare for start of European Open in Antwerp this weekend

A new edition of the European Open will start in Antwerp this weekend. For the seventh year in a row, the Flemish city will host a variety of high-profile athletes. Famous tennis players such as David Goffin, Andy Murray, Hubert Hurkacz, Stan Wawrinka and Dominic Thiem will take part in the week-long tournament in the Lotto Arena.

Both single and double matches will be played, with the finals taking place on the 23th of October. Next to the matches of the official tournament, several recreational activities are planned. These include a wheelchair tennis showmatch and several initiatives for Think Pink, a non-profit breast cancer organisation in Belgium.

“Flanders has a long tennis tradition. Both on the court and in the  stands. After last year's successful edition, we want to provide a top  spectacle once again by bringing top international tennis to Flanders. A Lotto Arena filled to the brim in October will be able to enjoy the best of national and international men's tennis," said Flemish minister of Tourism Zuhal Demir.
