Theatre by the Sea festival in Ostend takes audiences ‘across waves and generations’
The Theatre by the Sea festival - Theater Aan Zee or TAZ - kicks off on Wednesday evening at Kursaal Ostend, with the opening performance Ne Mobliez Mie by FC Bergman. The theme of the 27th edition of the festival, which runs until 10 August, is "Take me with you, across waves and generations".
TAZ is an annual multidisciplinary arts festival that takes place in midsummer at different locations in and around Ostend, featuring theatre, dance, ballet, music and literature.
For 11 days, this year’s edition presents numerous performances at 17 locations in Ostend, coordinated by artistic director Cindy Godefroi. The programme includes a performance by actress Marijke Pinoy with her five children and two children-in-law. For the performance (V), five actresses talked to their parents and grandparents about life, love and regrets. The theme of generations runs as a thread through the performances.
A total of eight performances will premiere during the festival, including Het Ego by Anemone Valcke and Verona Verbakel, For Rosa by Nic Balthazar, Felix Maesschalck and Benjamin Van Bunderen Robberechts and Fairy Tales by tibaldus. There are also 10 graduation performances. Café Koer in Leopold Park is the centre of the festival.
Of the 65,000 tickets, there are more than 14,000 still available.
