Thibau Nys secures first cyclocross World Cup victory
Thibau Nys won the first World Cup cross of the season on Sunday in Waterloo, Iowa. It is the first elite victory of the 20-year-old Belgian's career. Nys finished 16 seconds ahead of runner-up Eli Iserbyt.
"It's unbelievable and something I will never forget," Nys told CyclingNews after the race. "Riding solo to the line is one of the best days I've had on my bike (...) I knew I was in good shape, but to ride so dominant is unbelievable."
Thibau Nys is the son of Sven Nys, one of the most decorated athletes in cyclocross history. He is the current U23 cyclocross world champion and is regarded as one of the sport's brightest prospects. Nys has also shown promise on the road, winning his first elite stage at the Tour of Norway in May.
