38 Belgian companies attend world's biggest game fair
Gamescom, the world's largest games fair, opened in Cologne on Wednesday. A total of 38 Belgian companies are present, and Flemish minister-president Jan Jambon is expected to visit the Belgian pavilion.
At this year's event, 1,227 exhibitors will present their new games, hardware or other products. Among them are industry giants Nintendo, Ubisoft and Tencent.
The fast-growing Belgian games industry has set up a pavilion at Gamescom with the support of the country's regional investment agencies and the Flemish Audiovisual Fund.
Belgium's computer games industry has seen significant growth in recent years, with the number of companies increasing by more than a fifth year-on-year to 133 in 2022. Most recently, at the beginning of August, Baldur's Gate 3 by Ghent-based Larian Studios became the world's best-selling computer game.
On Wednesday, Gamescom will only be open to computer game industry professionals and journalists. On Thursday, it opens to the general public and runs until Sunday.
