Ticket sales open for public visits to Royal Greenhouses
The Royal Greenhouses of Laeken will again open to the public for three weeks this spring. The greenhouses will be open from 26 April to 20 May, with ticket sales beginning on Thursday.
Visitors must book a time slot online. During the day, there is a choice between a long trail of about 3km, with an indoor and outdoor section, and a short walk of about 2km. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and on the Whit Monday holiday on 20 May, there will be events in the evening, when only the short trail is available. On 14 May, there will be an adapted trail for people with reduced mobility.
Architect Alphonse Balat, Victor Horta’s teacher, designed a conservatory complex in 1873 to match the classical style palace in Laeken. The greenhouses were given the silhouette of a glass city, planted in a hilly park landscape. They were built in Art Nouveau style and the first section was inaugurated in 1880. Several more conservatories were added later.
The greenhouses are opened to the public every spring for three weeks, the only occasion when the public are able to visit.
