Trump to attend Notre Dame reopening in Paris
President-elect Donald Trump will travel to Paris on Saturday for the grand reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral. It will be his first international trip since his reelection in November.
The cathedral, devastated by a fire in 2019, has been fully restored. French president Emmanuel Macron invited Trump, who praised the restoration effort, calling it a “special day for all” on his Truth Social platform. The ceremony will host about 50 world leaders.
Trump and Macron had a mixed but productive relationship during Trump’s first term in office. Macron was also the first foreign leader to congratulate Trump after his election victory.
The visit will take place after Trump announced the nomination of Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as US ambassador to France on Saturday.
Reports indicate that Trump and Macron are planning to meet again in February for a summit on artificial intelligence, which will also feature Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, whom Trump has tapped for a key role in his administration.
