Two Belgian films selected for Cannes' prestigious Directors' Fortnight

Two Belgian films have been selected for La Quinzaine des Cinéastes (Directors' Fortnight), a major parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival.
La Danse des Renards, the debut feature of Brussels-born Valéry Carnoy, tells the story of a boxing prodigy whose passion is shattered by a tragic event. A graduate of the Brussels film school INSAS and trained in intercultural psychology, Carnoy made a name for himself with short films before moving on to feature-length cinema.
Dorian Jespers' Loynes is a surreal short film set in 19th-century Liverpool that tells the bizarre story of a nameless corpse. Jespers gained international attention with his short film Sun Dog in 2020, which was screened at numerous festivals including the European Film Awards and the Oscars.
Both films were supported by the Centre du Cinéma et de l'Audiovisuel of the French Community of Belgium. Directors' Fortnight was created after the events of May 1968 resulted in cancellation of the Cannes festival as an act of solidarity with striking workers.
It is run by the French Directors' Guild, known for championing innovative filmmaking and emerging voices outside of the festival's main competition. This year, the 57th edition runs from 14-24 May.
