Van der Poel again the best of the big three in cyclocross
Cyclist Mathieu van der Poel was again unmatched in his fourth cross of the season. The Dutch world champion won the 10th round of the Cyclo-Cross World Cup on Tuesday in Gavere, East Flanders, ahead of Belgium's Wout Van Aert and Briton Tom Pidcock.
Van der Poel accelerated in the first of seven laps and then rode unthreatened to victory on the mud course. This was his fourth victory this winter after successes in Herentals, Mol and Antwerp.
Van Aert crossed the line 36 seconds later, followed by Pidcock. The three cyclists have a limited programme in the field, in preparation for competition on the road, but are comfortably ahead of the other riders.
