Von der Leyen to gather CEOs in Antwerp to support Clean Industrial Deal

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will present her strategy for revitalising the EU economy to more than 300 industry leaders in Antwerp on 26 February, POLITICO reports. The event follows the launch of the Clean Industrial Deal, her flagship initiative to boost Europe's competitiveness against the US and China while promoting climate neutrality.
As Europe grapples with rising energy costs and industrial decline, the Clean Industrial Deal aims to stabilise key industries while promoting sustainable growth. In Antwerp, von der Leyen will try to win over business leaders by promising regulatory clarity and solutions to high energy prices in a bid to restore confidence in Brussels' economic strategy.
Antwerp Declaration
Organised by chemical lobby group Cefic, the event brings together signatories of the Antwerp Declaration - a growing coalition of over 1,000 organisations from 25 sectors calling for a European Industrial Deal to complement the Green Deal and safeguard jobs.
The Antwerp Declaration, first presented to von der Leyen and former Belgian prime minister Alexander De Croo on 20 February last year by 73 business leaders from 17 sectors, highlights the urgent need to restore Europe's investment attractiveness in the midst of the worst economic downturn in a decade.
The agenda for the 26 February event includes a keynote speech, a CEO roundtable and discussions with European Commissioners. Further details will be confirmed by the Commission.
