Vuelta a España stage 13: Vingegaard soars to victory, disappointment for Evenepoel
Jonas Vingegaard won the 13th stage of the Vuelta a España on Friday. The 134.7km stage was the disappointing for Remco Evenepoel, who has had to give up his overall ambitions for the fastest time after dropping behind early in the stage.
Stage 13 started in Formigal Huesca La Magia and finished on the Col du Tourmalet. Evenepoel, the overall winner of the 2022 Vuelta, dropped on the Col d'Aubisque and never regained the lead. The Belgian favourite finished 27 minutes behind Vingegaard, falling from third to 19th place in the general classification.
At the head of the stage, Vingegaard finished ahead of teammates Sepp Kuss and Primoz Roglic. Cian Uijtdebroeks was fifth and Steff Cras ninth.
Another mountain stage awaits the Vuelta peloton on Saturday. After the start in Sauveterre-de-Béarn, there is 156.2km to go before the uphill finish in Larra-Belagua. There are two out-of-category climbs and one third-category descent. The final climb is a first category climb.
