The Walloon regional government has filed a complaint following last week's cyberattack, it announced on Tuesday. As a result of the attack, the region had to take all government services offline on Thursday.
The attack has not yet been claimed and it is still unclear whether any data was stolen or destroyed. Since Thursday, a contingency plan has been in place to ensure the functioning of critical services such as payments, road management, dams and airports.
As was the case last weekend, other services such as town planning, environmental permits and the management of European subsidies are still affected, but not completely paralysed.
Mon Espace, the digital service desk for the French-speaking community, Pac-On-Web, the service desk for supporting farmers, and the website for energy and renovation subsidies are still experiencing a "very significant" impact, said a spokesperson for the Walloon government.
"We want to move quickly, but not in a hurry. When the services come back online, it will be a gradual process," they said. The region is working with Microsoft and the Centre for Cybersecurity to "verify the necessary security conditions" for a gradual recovery.
