War bomb dismantled at Gent-Sint-Pieters railway station
A war bomb was found in the Gent-Sint-Pieters train station in the Belgian city of Ghent during excavation work on the night of Monday to Tuesday, railway infrastructure manager Infrabel and SNCB report. The bomb was dismantled by demining service DOVO.
Early in the morning on Tuesday, the railway station could largely not be operated. The bomb was located 300 metres from the platforms and some trains had to be cancelled or diverted. The dismantling of the bomb by DOVO went smoothly and train traffic could resume at around 05:50 am.
Due to its location, Gent-Sint-Pieters is one of the busiest railway stations in Belgium. The disruption during the morning rush hour was moderate, however. Most trains ran with an average delay of five minutes.
