Flemish company signs contract to renovate largest video wall in Latin America
Metro traffic in São Paulo, Brazil, is monitored by a 50m-wide video wall, installed in 2011 by the technology company Barco, from Kortrijk. On Monday, during an economic mission to Brazil, the company signed a contract to upgrade the system.
The video wall in transport operator CPTM's control room is made up of more than 60 screens and is the largest in Latin America, according to Zacarias Carmelo, Barco’s manager in Brazil.
While the existing LED technology has served its purpose for over a decade, it will be replaced with more advanced laser technology in 2025. The upgrade is designed to extend the video wall’s lifespan by another 15 years.
CPTM oversees five metro lines spanning 196km of track. Every weekday, its trains transport approximately 1.6 million passengers and has a customer satisfaction score of more than 86 per cent.
Despite arriving late to the control room visit due to São Paulo’s infamous traffic jams, Flemish minister president Matthias Diependaele opted to take the metro back to his hotel, reporting a smooth journey.
“It is fantastic that a West Flemish company, active in more than 100 countries, can continue to deliver high-tech quality on such a large scale," Diependaele said. "This collaboration also strengthens other possible partnerships between Flanders and Brazil.”
