Wife of American Goodyear top executive killed at home in Brussels

In the Brussels municipality of Sint-Pieters-Woluwe, the wife of an American top executive of global tyre manufacturer Goodyear has been killed by a burglar, reported Het Nieuwsblad and Sudpresse. The tragedy occurred on 17 March but has become known only now.
According to Sudpresse and Het Nieuwsblad, the 61-year-old American woman arrived at her flat in the Roger Vandendriesschelaan in Sint-Pieters-Woluwe on 17 March at around 8 pm. At the door, an unknown man wearing a face mask was waiting and presumably threatened her to get into the flat.
Once inside, he allegedly stabbed the victim and then fled with various expensive watches, worth several tens of thousands of euros, and jewellery.
Her husband, who came home later, found her and notified the emergency services, but they could only confirm the death. The husband is the top executive for the Middle East, Africa and Europe regions of Goodyear Europe. The couple had been living in Brussels for several years.
The woman's body has since been repatriated to the United States, where she will be buried next Wednesday. She leaves behind four children and two grandchildren.
The perpetrator is allegedly still at large. The Brussels public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation for manslaughter and is not commenting further for now.
